How Felicity star Amy Jo Johnson found the best part of herself through the loss of her mother.

Just as Amy Jo Johnson landed her dream role on the hit show Felicity, her mother lost her fight with cancer.

When Amy Jo was 18 years old, she packed her bags and moved to New York City to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. "Getting Felicity was the best thing that has happened in my career so far, but it happened at a time where the worst thing in my life was happening - I was losing my mom."

"Saying goodbye to my mother was incredibly sad, but at the same time, it was incredibly beautiful." Amy Jo's mom shared many things with her daughter before she passed away. She told her daughter to keep a journal of things she was grateful for when she went through a period of depression in seventh grade. "It was a miracle and it worked! And I've been doing it ever since."

Now Amy Jo has 16 journals. "I write a million letters to her, half of my journal is letters to my mom." Amy Jo also channels her feelings into her music. "I love writing music, I love writing music about my mom. If I really want to feel close to her, I'll just sit down, put her picture in front of me, and I'll just start."

Since her mother's death, Amy Jo finds that she looks at life differently. "When she passed away, three days later, I went into my living room, and I started crying. And then all of a sudden, I was filled with this amazing peaceful feeling. She came to me and sort of gave me this feeling that all this stuff we worry about in life really means nothing."

"Through my mom's illness, I completely found my faith. I saw so much faith in her, and I saw just so much beauty."
