LOS ANGELES - In reaction to a drop in ratings for Felicity, The WB executives have reportedly banned the stars on
its young-adult shows from cutting their hair short, according to the New York Post.
The edict is in response to Felicity star Keri Russell's drastic new look last fall, which had fans calling the networks to complain about the star's new look. This was coupled by a decline in ratings for the show, which some executives blamed on the new 'do. "You don't want to radically alter the look of a character from one season to the next. That generally doesn't work," said WB spokesman Brad Turell. Russell is growing her long locks again. "I think she's happy to have it grown back," said Turell. "Her marketability is enhanced with longer hair." The no-cut policy is said to be extended to Buffy, The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Dawson's Creek darlings Katie Holmes and James Van Der Beek, Charmed star Shannen Doherty and Angel gal Charisma Carpenter. Russell chopped her locks last August at the suggestion of Felicity co-executive producer J.J. Abrams. Most actors have appearance clauses in their contracts that stop them from changing their appearance without approval. The new WB policy would prohibit showrunners from changing the appearance of lead characters on each series." |
